2020 started out well. I can't believe we are already a month into 2020. Time does fly and going to a High School parent orientation drove that home. How is it that Sophia will be going to high school in the fall and I am not getting any older?
Steve bought me flowers for my Mother's birthday. He even asked Linda for my mother's favorite flower to be sure the bouquet included some. He found out they were daisies. He is the best!! I miss my Mom so much. She would have been 84 years old on January 8th.
Sophia competed in the high school show series again. This is the show that she gets on a horse she doesn't know and competes in hunter classes. She did really well the first class. She took a second place. She was doing well in the second class but the horse fell... yes the horse fell. They were coming from a canter to a walk and the horse slipped somehow and basically collapsed. I had just put my photo down from taping the canter. I looked down to turn the phone off and heard people react. I look up to see Sophia's horse down on the ground with her on top of him. Her leg was partially under him but thankfully he seemed to know it and not put all his weight down. He also didn't jump up. Sophia thinks it is because he wanted to be sure that she was safely out of the way. It was scary seeing a horse collapse like that and not get up. So glad she did not get hurt. We learned through instragram that the horse was retired to walk/trot lessons only the day after that show.
Sophia is really doing well riding Nicki. She loves her. They are working on dressage. She is hoping to qualify for Champs on Nicki. Nicki was her instructors Pony Club horse years ago. Nicki went on to do some high level eventing and is now back at the barn doing primarily dressage work.
We got together with some of the families who adopted together for a Chinese New Year celebration. The girls had a blast being together. The food was awesome. It was nice to catch up with these families. Last year was the first year we did not do a reunion in the summer.
We also attended the Pony Club end of year banquet. So much has changed in a year. Sophia's plaque last year just read D-2. She had not done any rallies. This year it listed her as a C-1. It also had her participating in Dressage Rally, Games, Rally, Show Jumping Rally, Quiz, Champs. She was a stable manager for Eventing Rally and Tet. She did everything last year!! So proud of all Sophia accomplished and how much she has grown. She is quite the equestrian.
Our pets are all doing well. Mr. Twinkletoes and Otto like going out back with Steve and the dogs. They have to be supervised. They don't run off if he takes them out. They love the fresh air.
