Things really started picking up in May. Show season is upon us. Sophia competed in three shows in May. The first one was a recognized show at Morven Park. The weather was crazy. It was sunny one minute then raining the next. Sophia timed it perfectly to be riding in the middle of a hail storm during her second ride. It was not fun. The hail was coming down hard... it hurt.
She did a schooling show in May too. It was FREEZING cold and rainy. Weather has not been our friend at horse shows this month. Sophia did two Level 1 tests and got good feedback.
Sophia competed with Jemma, Meredith and Anna for the Pony Club Games. They had a blast. They came in third, out of three teams. Sophia had tried a privately owned horse, Jewel, in a couple of practices. After being bucked off twice they realized Jewel wasn't a good candidate for games. She was too nervous. Sophia rode the old pro Wave. Wave took her sweet time going down the ring but cantered back to the finish.
Sophia and Gretchen helped the younger team by leading their practices. She also helped them during the show.
We took our obligatory May 1st pictures by the azaleas. You can see Sophia was thrilled. The flowers are almost as pretty as she is.
We celebrated my birthday by bringing home dinner from my favorite pasta restaurant. It was delicious. They haven't opened for dine in service yet but thankfully they were open for pick up. Last year they were closed due to Covid so this was even more appreciated this year.
